Academic Assessments

Our third tower began with a question, “if we don’t like the metrics we are seeing in our public-facing accountability reports, what should we do to change them?” So, we started to look into what it would look like to use the same data we were using for accountability purposes to inform strategic planning, district- and school-level decision making, and teaching and learning. With this in mind, we created a new set of internal-facing reports that could drill down all the way to the student level.

We also realized that to support students, there were additional assessments that needed to be considered and that not all districts used the same ones. So we worked with our members to identify which assessments were most valuable and began adding to the list you see here. To ensure that we were not comparing apples and oranges, we had our assessments team review the psychometric research and reports from each of the vendors to determine how to best map performance and growth into the five categories we visualize (details here). The result is a set of reports for both teachers and administrators that can support their day-to-day work.
