How We Keep the Costs Low
We recognize that smaller education agencies need to be cost-conscious. As a result, in every decision that we make, we look for opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce licensing fees so that we can pass on those savings to our members.
Cost Sharing: All participating districts are sharing basic infrastructure costs. This allows us to offer the same features and functionalities that larger systems can procure at a fraction of the price.
Data Transfer Costs: This project uses the Ed-Fi data standard, which means that the cost for bringing data into the system from student information systems, assessment vendors, and other edtech products is substantially reduced for those systems using the standard.
Data Visualization Costs: For public-facing reports, this project utilizes low-cost Google Data Studio and includes both licensing for internal use and public-facing websites. It is also developer and analyst-friendly, so districts can potentially create new reports themselves if desired. For more robust internal reporting, the project leverages SuperSet, an open-source technology without licensing fees.
Customization Costs: Everything Ed-Fi is now also part of the open-source community, so any dashboard reports, data transfer utilities, or other technology assets built by any other districts in the community across the country are potentially re-usable for this project.
Competency-based Data Capture Costs: This project benefits from the donation and integration of software from the non-profit MasteryTrack. There are no licensing fees associated with the use of this software beyond the membership fee structure for the dashboard.
System Maintenance: Non-profit Education Analytics provides customer and systems support for this project at cost and we also leverage pro bono support sponsored by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation to defray onboarding costs.
Low Annual Membership Fees
Membership fees are tiered based on enrollment, with annual fees starting as low as $3600 per year. Membership is a flat fee that includes access to all reports for as many users as desired.
